Valladolid colonial town
Built by the Spanish on a Maya ceremonial site, Valladolid is less than an hour’s drive from Chichén Itzá ruins but is still under-the-radar with most other tourists. Designated a Pueblo Magico (Magical Town) in 2012, Valladolid is now coming into its own. Pick up a coconut ice cream and watch the world go by in the Park Francisco Cantón Rosado, or plan to visit on a Sunday when the park and nearby streets are closed for live music and dancing. Don’t leave without taking a stroll down the pastel-spectacular Calle Los Frailes.
